| ISES Big Apple Awards Return With Twice as Many Categories, Open Entry for Submissions |
|
The 2009 Big Apple Awards are open for entries, and this year the International Special Events Society's New York metro chapter is looking to honor event professionals in 27 different categories—more than double theawards given in previous years. Would-be nominees have until May 15 to make submissions for the June 30 ceremony at the Lighthouse at Pier 61.
Among the 14 new categories at this year's show, are those recognizing outstanding achievements in nontraditional methods such as virtual meetings and incorporation of social media. The 2009 awards will also dole out honors for Best Demonstration of Return on Investment, Best Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative, and Best Teambuilding Concept.
One of the biggest differences from previous years is the decision to open up the awards to all area event professionals—not just ISES members. “We want the Big Apple Awards to become the event equivalent of the Good Housekeeping seal of approval for the local industry, and in order to do so we had to cast a wide net,” said Howard Givner, C.E.O. of North America for Global Events Group and vice president of programs for ISES's New York metro chapter, in a statement released today. “The goal is to recognize the best event work. Period.”
