| Yesterday Mayor Michael Bloomberg—along with NYC & Company, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, and Steven Kolb, the executive director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America—announced that September Fashion Week will kick off with a citywide event in support of local retailers. Dubbed Fashion's Night Out and designed to stimulate consumer spending, which has impacted high-end design houses, boutiques, and department stores alike, the public promotion on September 10 will involve more than 100 shops across the five boroughs staying open until 11 p.m., each offering in-store promotions and events.
And lest it be viewed as some sort of frivolous spending spree, the event will benefit the National September 11 Memorial & Museum through the sale of a limited-edition T-shirt. Additionally, the New York City AIDS Fund will collect any clothes dropped-off during Fashion's Night Out to donate to HIV/AIDS organizations throughout the city.
