Guests Weigh In at Fat-Campy Book Party
After hitting the scale, they got Krispy Kreme donuts, hand massages with food-scented creams, and a pillowcase stuffed with goodies.
Fat camp isn’t fun—we’re guessing—but it was a fun theme for a party for a book on the topic, Abby Ellin’s Teenage Waistland: A Former Fat Kid Weighs in on Living Large, Losing Weight, and How Parents Can (and Can’t) Help (Public Affairs Books). Skipping the veggies and health drinks, Andy Morris & Company and Gotham magazine held an intentionally campy and indulgent event. (Morris is a friend of the author, who also contributes to Gotham.) Guests were invited to weigh themselves on a doctor’s scale from Props for Today and partake of pastries from Ceci-Cela Patisserie and glazed donuts from Krispy Kreme. Spa Chicks on-the-Go provided hand massages with food-scented creams, like Essie’s Smoothie creams, and Jaqua Girls’ hot chocolate and marshmallow creams. And Klein Creative Communications stuffed pillowcases with a selection of lighthearted gifts that included Jenny Craig cheese curls, candy, chocolate chip bars, chocolates with macadamia nuts—even a can of instant tie-dye.
