| The Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association showed off its new Center for Automotive Education and Training with a roster of speeches and—more important—an open house of the building’s high-tech training bays (think clean, sleek spaces, not greasy garages), classrooms, and meeting spaces. Ten years in the making, the spacious new center in the Whitestone section of Queens is not only a facility for technicians’ instruction and auto dealers’ training sessions—it is also a meeting and conference center available to nonmember companies. |

Candida Romanelli, the association’s vice president of special projects and events (and director of the huge New York International Auto Show), worked with Paint the Town Red to produce the opening event, which included cute touches like a white bar from Modprop.com made from two stacks of tires. Simple, clever decor elements included the black carpeting at the entry to the building with a white line down the middle reminiscent of the open road.
The Catering Company served hors d’oeuvres on fun, automotive-inspired trays. Curried chicken with papaya on sticky ride bundles, crispy potato nests with pear chutney, and hearty roasted red pepper,.phparagus and goat cheese frittata were passed on shiny hubcaps, faux steering wheels, and crafty displays that incorporated metal coils and surfaces with tread marks.
