Press Gets Pink Bites at Kitty Breakfast
At the early morning press announcement, journos filled up on tiny pink hors d'oeuvres and coffee, cappuccinos, and tea flavored with pink milk and sugar.
It's not often that guests see food matched to an event's color theme and certainly not at a press breakfast. But they did at Sanrio's annual press event for its Hello Kitty brand, where Indiana Market & Catering provided a large array of nibbles to match the event's dominant pink and white look. Event producer Phoenix Event Productions worked with Bill Hensley, Sanrio's international marketing director, to create the fun fete.

The early morning gathering of nearly 100 magazine editors and approximately 75 Sanrio licensees (assembled by Los Angeles-based Orsi Public Relations) feasted on seven types of passed hors d'oeuvres, including an assortment of mini bagels served with red pepper or .phpberry cream cheese; waffle cones filled with strawberry cannoli mix; and vanilla cupcakes with pink frosting. The caterer created the tidbits in miniature, measuring between one and one and a half inches each, to complement the display of the brand's new jewelry collection designed by Kimora Lee Simmons (as well as the product line itself, which features girly accessories). If those tiny treats weren't enough to satisfy the hungry journos, stationary displays held more food like roasted red onion, sweet red pepper, and goat cheese quiche.

Drinks also came in various shades of pink: cappuccinos, coffee, and tea served with pink milk and sugar; white cranberry juice served in a glass rimmed with pink sugar crystals; and champagne mixed with white cranberry juice and .phpberry puree.

Another unusual facet of the event was its location, the nightclub Show—while Hello Kitty may be turning 32 this year, there are few that would associate her name with nightlife. But the club connection was clear when they announced guitar maker Fender's partnership with Hello Kitty, a collaboration that includes a line of guitars and accessories as well as a songwriting contest.
