| This Week: Contemporary Art Fairs, Diffa Tables |
|
March is shaping up to be a busy month. Tonight brings House & Garden’s new issue celebration at Lotus Space, the March of Dimes’ Million Dollar Beauty ball at the Waldorf-Astoria, and also a Reebok showcase of musical talent at Marquee. Thursday evening is the Frick Collection’s glam Young Fellows ball, which takes on a “Tango and Tapas” Spanish-theme this year. Thursday is also the opening-night gala for the Architectural Digest Home Design show at Pier 94, which runs from Thursday through Sunday.
On Friday, the huge contemporary art expo, the Armory Show, opens at the Show Piers on the Hudson and runs Friday through Monday. The Scope art fair presents emerging artists nearby at an 11th Avenue space, also from Friday through Monday. And yet another competing expo, the Pulse art fair operates for the same duration at the 69th Regiment Armory. On Saturday, Diffa opens its annual display of creative tabletops with its Dining by Design preview and public viewing at the Waterfront (it moved from the Hammerstein Ballroom this year), which runs through Monday; the Dining by Design gala dinner is on Monday evening. Also Saturday, the Inner Circle show occurs at the Hilton New York, with reporters spoofing politicos. The New York chapter of the National Television Academy presents its Emmy awards on Sunday at the Marriott Marquis. And at Daniel on Sunday, Citymeals-on-Wheels holds its Savoring Citymeals benefit.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame holds its induction ceremony at the Waldorf on Monday. Honorees include Black Sabbath, Blondie, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Luxury goods purveyor Montblanc celebrates its 100th anniversary Tuesday with an event at the Newspace. And at Christie’s, elements of Truman Capote’s Black and White ball resurface as the auction house hosts a preview of its Plaza hotel auction (which includes a midnight breakfast).
