| Kunz Transforming Old Aquavit Space |
|
Gray Kunz, chef and owner of foodie hot spot Café Gray, announced plans for a new restaurant venture last night. In the landmark Midtown spot that once housed Aquavit, Kunz will open a restaurant and lounge called Grayz offering two levels for drinking, dining, and private events. (The menu will be small plates, allowing customers to "graze"—get it?) The design from Chris Smith of CMS Architecture (who recently designed Don Pintabona's Dani) takes inspiration from the building itself—a former Rockefeller townhouse—and 1950's New York, with leather upholstery, high back chairs, a fireplace, and herringbone-patterned floors. Framing the private room, known as the atrium, will be a two-story wall of wine. Kunz plans to open Grayz in October.
