| ISES Awards Dinner Heats Up |
|
Event and meeting planners involved with the ISES New York metro chapter came together on Tuesday night for the organization’s 2006 Big Apple awards. Held at Café St. Bart’s, the indoor-outdoor event had a Moroccan theme, complete with belly dancers, hookahs—and Africa-like temperatures (the high that day was 84 degrees). The muggy evening air heated up the tented cocktail hour, held on the venue’s outdoor patio, and the non-air-conditioned dining room where several fans were plugged in to cool down hot guests. After a 20-minute performance by Hazar Dance belly dancers, the presentation kicked off with introductions by comedian Joe Mulligan, who began with the wisecrack, “It’s always been my dream to perform in a sauna on Park Avenue.”
After dinner, ISES board members handed out the awards to winners including LeadDog Marketing for the Sephora Union Square block party that drew 50,000 people (best social event over $50,000); Wizard Studio’s HarperCollins event that brought the Chronicles of Narnia movie to life (best corporate event under $50,000); Empire Force Events for its financial institution event that re-created the original Studio 54 (best entertainment production); and Aramark Ellis Island for its NYC & Company event that brought together 26 international chefs to compete at the United Nations (best creative catering).
The event ran smoothly, largely due to the 17 vendors who offered gratis services. Scented centerpieces were provided by Caperberry Events, rich hued drapes from Drape Kings, catering from Sage Events/Café St. Bart’s, and Moroccan archways courtesy of the Union Square Group. The ISES board held its board installation prior to the event, where Jennifer Claire Scott was officially named president.
