| Finance Mag Debuts With Far East Flair |
| The Dealmaker launch drew business types with an all-things-Asian assortment of dim sum and tai chi. |
|
| From fortune cookies and martial arts to the venue itself (the Mandarin Oriental), Asia was the inspiration for the launch party for Dealmaker, a new strategy/lifestyle magazine for investment bankers and other bigwigs in the financial world. “In the financial community, everyone’s got an eye on Asia, so we wanted to express that,” said Rachel Pine, director of marketing and communications for Dealmaker owner Doubledown Media. More than 800 guests (including dealmakers Stephen Benson of Stephens Inc. and Michael Price from Evercore Partners) attended the event, which included tai chi and martial arts demonstrations, Asian-inspired appetizers from the Mandarin Oriental, and a 12-foot-long Chinese lion, which weaved its way through the packed room. |

Guests sipped martinis and perused pages from the magazine, which were blown up to 15 times their size and displayed throughout the room. “We really wanted the magazine to be the focus of the event, but the ceilings in the room were so high that anything you display looks too small,” Pine said. “So the extra-large magazine pages served as decoration and also allowed people to take a closer look at the content.”
Gift bags were filled with C.E.O.-worthy treats including Cartier stationery by IWC, golf tees and markers from Deloitte, suntan lotion from DPS Sporting Development, gift certificates to tailor Ted Fisher New York, and cigars by Macanudo.
