Grand Army Plaza serves as a gateway to Brooklyn's Prospect Park, and starting this Saturday, it is the site of a monthlong outdoor exhibition hosted by the Design Trust for Public Space that will showcase 30 designs that offer a variety of tranformative ideas for the space. Proposals came in from around the world, with designs that address issues like transportation, urban landscapes, ecological concerns, lighting, and architecture.

Design firm Pentagram created the look of the exhibit, with displays on 14 eight-foot cubes fashioned out of backlit stretched vinyl on aluminum framework, as well as two larger structures that are 24 feet tall. The red cubes will collect solar energy during the day, which will power the illuminated displays for the evening hours. The Design Trust will name winners of the competition Friday; the public show ends October 13.
