Restaurant and wine bar Funky Monkey Wine Company expanded its Orlando chain—the flagship store is downtown—in September with the opening of a new location inside entertainment complex Pointe Orlando. The 3,000-square-foot eatery occupies the former Grape space and seats 150.

A lounge for about 20 sits at the entrance and can be used as prefunction space or for semiprivate dinners. A patio can accommodate about 50. MORE >>

Waldorf Astoria Opens Orlando Outpost With Ballet and Fireworks

Hilton Hotels celebrated the opening of its first Waldorf Astoria outside of New York on Thursday night at its new Orlando property (more hotel information is here) with a gala dinner and ballet premiere for more than 500 people.  

Following the cocktail reception, the Orlando Ballet performed Homage, a new performance piece created for the event, against a backdrop of projected tree images that surrounded the stage in the main ballroom. The hotel served a dinner of pan-seared beef tenderloin paired with roasted Maine lobster following the 17-minute performance. MORE >>

Warbird Adventures debuted its second airplane hangar, WA Hangar Two, as an event space in mid-October. The venue is located at the Kissimmee Gateway Airport, just eight miles from Walt Disney World.

The 10,000-square-foot hangar has 24-foot ceilings and can accommodate 1,500 people seated or 2,000 for receptions. MORE >>

Brio Tuscan Grille Opens First Tampa Location, Offers Six Private Rooms

The Bravo-Brio Restaurant Group opened its first Tampa location of Brio Tuscan Grille on October 10. The 20,000-square-foot restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating for 190 and 44, respectively, and an entire floor dedicated to private events.

The second floor has six rooms and two outdoor areas for private events. Groups ranging from 16 to 225 can be accommodated among the rooms, which are connected to adjacent patios in groups of three. Each set of three rooms can be used individually or combined for larger groups. There are also a separate kitchen and bar area and restrooms. MORE >>

New Hilton Comes With a Steak House and Private Event Space

The Hilton Orlando hotel opened in September with several new amenities for groups, including the steak house Spencer’s.

The 2,500-square-foot restaurant is outfitted with chocolate brown banquettes, espresso-colored two tops, and rounds of five to seat as many as 120 people in the main dining room. An open kitchen provides diners with a glimpse of the prime steaks and fresh local seafood and organic produce that are served daily. MORE >>

The Waldorf Astoria Orlando, a project three years in the making, opened October 1 on the 462-acre Bonnet Creek development. Twenty minutes from the Orlando International Airport, the hotel has 497 rooms, 169 of those two-room suites, and 28,000 square feet of meeting space.

The property's traditional meeting space is comprised of an 8,100-square-foot ballroom, two executive boardrooms, and 15 smaller meeting rooms for groups of 10 to 200, depending on the seating arrangement. Groups can also use the 132,000 square feet of meeting and prefunction space at the adjacent Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek. MORE >>

In June, Downtown Disney Pleasure Island added a new waterfront dining spot, Paradiso 37. The 5,000-square-foot restaurant seats 285 and serves a diverse menu representing the 37 countries in North, South, and Central America, along with 37 brands of tequila.

There’s outdoor seating for 50 on the lower-level patio overlooking the water, and a semiprivate wine bar on the second floor with an adjacent patio can accommodate 60. MORE >>

Universal Orlando's Harry Potter Park to Open Next Spring With Rides, Shops, Restaurant

Universal Orlando's park devoted to Harry Potter is set to open in spring 2010. And after several years of planning, Universal finally released details about the park last week, including the fictional locations from the books and films that will make up the extension of Universal's Islands of Adventure. 

Called the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the immersive environment will include multiple attractions, shops, and a signature restaurant. To give the franchise an authentic treatment, Universal Orlando collaborated with author J.K. Rowling, Warner Brothers Consumer Products, and Warner Brothers. MORE >>

Animals Roam Alongside the Rooms at Kidani Village

Guests can watch giraffes, zebras, and other African animals roam through a reproduction savannah from the balconies of 492 studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites (each with its own kitchenette) at Kidani Village, a lodge inside the Animal Kingdom.

Open since May, the 46-acre property features African-inspired architecture and decorthink hand-carved columns, gold-colored furnishings, and ornate hanging fixtures. The lobby has a vaulted thatched ceiling and a floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the savannah outside. MORE >>
