18 Thought Leaders To Gather At First Event Innovation Forum At BizBash Ideafest New York
Ambassador Capricia Marshall, David Stark, Karl Vontz of the Clios, Bill Wasik of Wired, and others to speak at the launch of the Event Innovation Forum

New York, NY—September 13, 2012—BizBash and the Event Leadership Institute announced that they are programming a new conference at BizBash IdeaFest New York at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on October 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Event Innovation Forum will include a curated series of presentations with experts from inside and outside the event and meeting industry.

“We’re really excited to share success stories from cutting-edge event marketers, as well as insights from influential people in other fields who can inspire,” said BizBash editor in chief Chad Kaydo.

“Our goal is to create a TED-style forum, where thought leaders and influencers can stimulate planners with new ideas and innovative approaches to events,” said Howard Givner, executive director of the Event Leadership Institute.

Curated by Kaydo and Givner, the Event Innovation Forum will replace the education sessions at previous BizBash trade shows, and will include three 90-minute sessions packed with a mix of presenters and presentation types, as well as a seated lunch and networking opportunities.

The presenters will include event designer and producer David Stark, Scott Schenker of SAP, Noelle Provencial of Groupon, Karl Vontz of the Clios, Robin Adelson of the Children's Book Council, Howard Singer of Highline Capital, John Schwartz of EventQuest, and many others.

Ambassador Capricia Marshall, chief of protocol of the United States, will discuss how the State Department uses what Secretary of State Hillary Clinton—a strong advocate for the power of events—calls “smart power” to enhance diplomatic efforts. Wired senior editor Bill Wasik will draw on examples that include Occupy Wall Street, the TED conferences, and his own experience with flash mobs to sketch out how digital media has changed the way we get together in real life today.

David Stark will walk attendees through his creative process in a session titled “The Path of an Idea: From Inspiration to Execution,” explaining how he takes an art-school approach to developing ideas with his team and how they pull off their imaginative designs for clients including Target, the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, and the Metropolitan Opera. A panel titled “How I Pitched a New Event to the C.E.O.—And Pulled It Off” will include insights from event professionals who have conceived large event projects and then worked within their organizations to make them happen.
