To kick off breast cancer awareness month, Self magazine hosted an all-pink silent auction and concert in Bryant Park on a unseasonably warm October afternoon. After an hour of bidding, event guests—as well as the lunchtime crowd that gathered in the park—listened to a performance by Jewel.

Event designer Frederick Anderson of Anderson Hannant took a cue from the event's Think Pink theme—which plays on the breast cancer crusade's signature color—and turned the west side of the park into a pink paradise. Under a large clear tent from United Rentals, pink carpet lined the ground and the park's fountain was filled with pink balloons and topped with a giant pink breast cancer ribbon. Mostly pink designer apparel showcased on pink mannequins was up for bids, as well as a pink Vespa.

Music First Booking and Productions created a large pink stage behind the auction area and adorned it with strings of pink balloons. A small V.I.P. area in front of the stage separated parkgoers from invited guests, who made themselves cozy on large pink bed seats (made from futon cushions by Anderson). Several small white tables covered with pink gingham tablecloths also surrounded the stage. A few large pink pillows were scattered in the non-V.I.P. areas of the park and pink ribbons were wrapped around the trees lining the park's perimeter. Bag lunches in cute pink sacks from Match Catering and Eventstyles offered shrimp salad, chicken wraps, potato chips, breadsticks and a chocolate cupcake with pink frosting.

WNBC's Jane Hanson emceed the event and the cast of Mamma Mia opened and closed the show with quick performances from the musical.

For gifts, Self doled out simple—but useful—items in a branded shopping bag including a khaki visor, Lafco coriander scented shower gel, Victoria's Secret mints and the latest issue of the magazine.
