WASHINGTON To promote the opening of YO!Sushi's first U.S. restaurant, LivingSocial hosted a sumo and dinner event Thursday at its 918 F Street venue. The ticketed event featured a three-course sushi meal, sake pairings, and live professional sumo wrestling featuring three-time world sumo champion Byambajav Ulambayar vs. three-time U.S. sumo champion Kelly Gneiting.
During the match, a professional sumo M.C. explained the sumo rules, technique, and culture. Guests could enter the ring for photos and matchups against the wrestlers.
Guests were served their meal at tables surrounding the sumo ring. The menu included edamame, whitefish sashimi topped with Yuzu salsa, “Hi-Bana” spicy tuna on crispy rice cake, popcorn shrimp tempura glazed with creamy miso, a California roll, albacore nigiri sushi, and mochi ice cream, all paired with three different sakes.
