On Thursday night, Stephen Wong and Kirk Pickersgill, the duo behind fashion label Greta Constantine, presented their spring/summer 2010 collection to an audience of 600 guests in an underground parking garage at the Audi Downtown Toronto dealership.

Jen Foster, director of corporate partnerships at Style for Style, planned the event on behalf of her designer clients and brought on presenting sponsors Audi and Rado, as well as Holt Renfrew, Hästens, and Bang & Olufsen. “All of the brands are very design oriented,” Foster said, explaining that the designers wanted to showcase like-minded brands at the pre-Fashion Week show. For the third annual “Most Wanted” fashion event—a fund-raiser held Friday in honour of Concetta Guglietti at Eagles Nest Golf Club—Erika Larva of Monarch Events Group arranged an exclusive presentation of Escada’s pre-fall collection for a crowd of 275 guests. The collection, which included 25 pieces that had not been shown on a runway outside of Munich (where the fashion house is based), was shipped from New York last week. But two days prior to the runway show, held in a tent on the club's grounds, the designer shipment had yet to arrive. “It got stuck at customs,” Larva said. “We were freaking out…we only did the fittings yesterday.”

The event, hosted by Fashion File’s Adrian Mainella and held in support of the gynecological cancer department at Princess Margaret Hospital, also featured designs by V Hazelton and Greta Constantine. “We always want to inject a Canadian component, and Greta Constantine is so hot," said Larva. "When we choose who to present, it’s important we choose a designer the audience will enjoy.” MORE >>

Greta Constantine Scales Back Set Design, Goes Runway-Less for Fashion Show

In 2008, Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong—the designers behind the Greta Constantine label—created elaborate sets to showcase their runway collections on a mirrored catwalk at Circa. But on Friday night models wearing fashions from the pair's fall/winter 2009 line walked the bare hardwood floor before a crowd of 500 guests at the Courthouse.

The designers used the stage at the front of the main floor for additional seating and created a runway that zigzagged through the chairs on the main level. The Courthouse began preparing the venue for the show last Tuesday, repainting some areas of the nightclub and repairing the hardwood floors, said Natasha Penzo of ASC PR. MORE >>

LG Installs Stage, Red Decor for Fashion Week's Closing Night Gala

The L'Oréal Fashion Week tents in Nathan Phillips Square underwent a complete makeover in less than 24 hours for Saturday's LG Fashion Fusion, a party cementing LG Canada's sponsorship and marketing efforts at Toronto's largest fashion event. Logistically speaking, Fashion Week's first-ever closing-night gala required more than 200 people to organize, including close to 100 staffers who worked overnight on Friday to prepare the venue. Crew members divided the interior of the tents into four zones—a red carpet entrance, a coat check and photo shoot section, the cocktail reception area, and the main foyer, where Maroon 5 played on a large stage with a runway.

"LG's signature role in Fashion Week was to do something very meaningful and elevate the event by engaging more of the general public," said Andrew Barrett, vice president of marketing for LG Electronics Canada. Barrett spearheaded the marketing partnership with the Fashion Design Council of Canada to become involved in L'Oréal Fashion Week for the first time. The company had two large booths inside the tents and launched four new phones at an event last Wednesday. MORE >>

On Wednesday night the duo behind the fashion label Greta Constantine presented their third show to an audience of more than 300 at Circa. The Campari-sponsored show included Stephen Wong and Kirk Pickersgill's signature mirrored runway, this time anchored by a glacier-shaped structure emphasizing the evening's "Fragile" theme. Staff at Circa constructed the 38 by 6-foot runway over three days using wooden planks covered in mirrored Plexiglas. MORE >>

Sponsored Lounges Offer Swag and Space to Chill
The Luxury Lounge located at Lobby

Sponsored lounges have popped up in the Bloor-Yorkville area to give celebrities and media a place to relax, get primped, and—of course—pick up swag during the Toronto International Film Festival. Here's a look at a few of the lounges around town.

Now in its third year, Wardrobe Lounge is a promotional platform for Canadian designers such as Greta Constantine and Nada Design as well as bigger brands like London Fog. Produced by Vision|Co. and fashion consultant Nicholas Mellamphy, the lounge offers by-appointment-only services to celebrities and stylists who want to borrow garments, handbags, and jewelry for the festival. This year's lounge is located in the Mandell Entertainment Group offices above Lobby and painted purple to continue the colour scheme of the downstairs Luxury Lounge. Blown-up covers of Fashion magazine, a returning sponsor, also furnish the upstairs space. MORE >>

Fashion Week Tent Poll: What Do You Think of the Shows?
With 35 shows being held over four days, there's been plenty to see on the runway at L’Oréal Fashion Week. This season's shows have included a mix of newcomers, including Project Runway Canada winner Evan Biddell and established designers Andy Thé-Anh, David Dixon, and Pink Tartan. We asked members of the crowd for their impressions of the fall 2008 presentations.

"I think Toronto Fashion Week is growing up. And being condensed to four days really made a difference because it was hot and heavy every day, so I think it's been great. I think there's been some terrible [shows] like there is in every fashion week all around the world. I mean, Jeanne [Beker] and I were talking about this before: When we go to New York we see the seven or eight major shows, but there's two shows running parallel to each other so there's more bad than there are good. Toronto is no different. There are a lot of people trying very hard who just are not there yet. But there's some outstanding collections. Greta Constantine, world class. They will end up being the next DSquared. They are outstanding. Spectacular."

Mirrors, Tree Branches Embellish Greta Constantine Set

Going against the grain and forgoing the L’Oréal Fashion Week tents, Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong presented their Greta Constantine fall 2008 collection to a packed crowd at Circa on Wednesday. Entitled "Part Four," to represent the label's fourth season in the business, the show furnished the nightclub's front ballroom with stairs leading to a 42-foot-long mirrored runway and a tree-branch collage backdrop.

Pickersgill and Wong produced the show with the help of main sponsor Campari, Circa staff (who constructed the runway), and ASC PR. M.A.C. cosmetics also sponsored the invite-only show, which was a factor in determining the venue. (L’Oréal products are used in the tents at Nathan Phillips Square.) MORE >>
