New Sports Venue Delivers Profit to City
BMO Field—home to Major League Soccer's Toronto FC—delivered a $900,000 profit in its inaugural year, half of which goes to the city of Toronto under a public-private partnership between the city-owned Exhibition Place (where the stadium is located) and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (which operates the stadium). The $62.9 million facility hosted 30 events—including the FIFA Under 20 World Cup and a Genesis reunion concert—in 2007.

"BMO Field is a terrific example of an appropriate public-interest partnership that is benefitting Torontonians in many ways," Mayor David Miller said in a statement announcing the stadium's business results. The facility, which is available for use by community groups, hosts Toronto FC's home opener on April 19.
