Canwest Shows Off Acquisitions at Global Television Upfront
Canwest Broadcasting presented the fall schedules for Global Television and the E! channel Wednesday morning at the Elgin Theatre. The upfront, which drew more than 1,500 people, started earlier than usual at 9 a.m. and presented 13 new series, including the 90210 spin-off (starring Canadian actress Shenae Grimes) and the drama Dollhouse by Joss Whedon. Mike Holmes and Colin and Justin from HGTV, Justin Bruening from the new series Knight Rider, and Entertainment Tonight Canada hosts Rick Campanelli and Cheryl Hickey all appeared onstage during the presentation.

Instead of focusing on one show, the after-party drew attention to Canwest's recent additions like BBC Canada, History Television, and Showcase, which the company acquired last December. The upfront also emphasized digital media, with Global announcing that it will stream many of its new and existing programs online.
