The Royal Ontario Museum unveils a new exhibition Saturday entitled "The Nature of Diamonds," which explores the centuries-old fascination with the glittering gem and its cultural significance. Along with sections explaining how diamonds are mined, cut, and marketed, the buzzed-about attraction is the steel gem vault brought in for the exhibition to display historical pieces such as the 407-carat Incomparable Diamond, the third largest in the world. Outside the vault, paintings, books, and a jewel case full of rings will illustrate the diamond's early history and style in India, and move on to the 20th century, where the stone is more commonly associated with Hollywood celebrities. Canadian diamonds will also be showcased. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more who book two weeks in advance. The museum can also accommodate private tours for groups of 10 or more. The exhibition runs through March 22.
