Canadian Film Centre Celebrates in High Style
Candelabra centerpieces, lively cabaret dancers, and delectable cuisine help create an elegant 18th century French setting for the centre's benefit dinner.
Canada's film nobility stormed Kool Haus for the Canadian Film Centre's 17th annual gala, R?volution, S'il Vous Plait! The centre tapped Kyriacou and Associates to transform the cavernous night club into a celebration of French culture. The decor featured a shimmering silver colour palette, including silver and crystal candelabra centerpieces accented by flowers from Forget Me Not Flowers. For entertainment, dancers from Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts high kicked their way through a French cabaret-style performance.

But the pi?ce de r?sistance was the food. At the beginning of the evening, Presidential Gourmet passed hors d'oeuvres such as ch?vre and shallot tarte, tuna tartar on brioche crostini, and smoked salmon with apple soubise served on a spoon. When the dinner portion of the evening began, the more than 600 business and entertainment luminaries took their silver chiavari chairs at tables covered in silver and black damask linens and waited to see what chef J.P. Challet of The Fifth Grill would serve. They weren't disappointed. The four-course meal began with corn veloute with butternut squash and apple crumble, followed by black cod with peas and leek ragout. Next, there was veal rib-eye with black trumpets and gratin potatoes, and finally, a dessert of rum orange cake, chocolate truffle, and lady fingers with berries.

The M.C. was comedienne Mary Walsh of This Hour Has 22 Minutes. The evening included a silent auction, featuring $20,000 in jewelry and exquisite trinkets, and a raffle for an $8,000 David Yurman ring and necklace set. After the dinner and entertainment, DJ Dave Campbell coaxed guests to the dance floor with lively tunes late into the night.
