Makeup stations, astrology readings, and a temporary tattoo parlour kept guests entertained at the launch of Cosmopolitan TV Canada, a new partnership between Corus Entertainment and the Hearst Corporation.
The invitation for the launch of Cosmopolitan TV Canada foreshadowed a girly good time: a lipstick tube with a hot-pink scroll with party details tucked inside. This creative approach likely helped lure nearly 400 guests to the "fun, flirty, fearless"-themed party at Ultra Supper Club on Tuesday night, despite a blustering snowstorm. The communications team at Corus Entertainment (which owns the channel) worked with Debra Goldblatt of Rock-it Promotions and Seventh Stage Productions to create activities targeted to Cosmopolitan's core demographic: women ages 18 to 34. "We really wanted this party to be a pick-me-up in mid-February," Goldblatt said.

Attractive men and women in logoed T-shirts greeted guests and asked them to choose one of three cards listing a task—either fun, flirty, or fearless—to complete at the party. (Some examples: Teach three people a secret handshake. Get a wild new tattoo. Send your biggest smile across the room to someone cute.) "The cards are about getting people in the mood right away and encouraging them to interact," Goldblatt said.

Two burlesque performers swung on bright-pink silk sashes at ceiling height throughout the evening, taking a short break for a cirque performance by Sabrina Pringle. A house DJ spun songs from the '90s while guests received temporary airbrushed tattoos and posed in the CosmoTV photo booth. Toronto's Psychic Nikki read fortunes, and artists from Make Up Forever treated guests to makeovers in the back room. The decor was kept to a minimum throughout the club, with simple pink flowers and TV screens flashing ads for the new digital channel. Servers passed finger foods such as tempura tiger shrimp and mini Kobe-beef hot dogs, as well as lip-shaped chocolates and caramels.

Josie Dye and Wilder Weir, the new hosts of CosmoTV's flagship show Oh So Cosmo, introduced special guests from Cosmopolitan's parent company, the Hearst Corporation in New York, including Hearst president Cathie Black. Servers passed pink champagne while guests listened to speeches about the partnership between Hearst and Corus Entertainment. A brief promotional video showcasing the channel's content, which includes uncut marathons of Sex and the City and romantic comedies like Legally Blonde, followed.

Guests left the party with black-and-pink gift bags containing items like fortune cookies, Givenchy perfume, and Revlon lipstick. Cosmopolitan TV Canada debuts today on BellExpressVu.
