The architectural firm Raw Design launched its new office by rearranging workspaces for a party with sashimi plates, edible greenery, and a Glenfiddich scotch tasting bar.
With the thinking that a design-conscious crowd should have a design-conscious party, Raw Design celebrated its new office (the company launched last summer) with a raw-themed event yesterday evening. Kim Graham & Associates worked with the architectural firm's founders, Roland Rom Colthoff and Richard Witt, to transform the office into a minimalist, party-ready space.

"It's nice to work with architects, because they have a vision and they work hard to make that vision happen," said Graham, who collaborated with the owners on the floor plan in an effort to integrate office furniture into the party.

Rearranged office furniture gave guests room to mingle at the event.

The furniture company Dietiker Switzerland created a red lounge space and provided extra seating.

A DJ booth fashioned out of office furniture added to the industrial vibe of the event.

A sashimi bar offered plates of raw hamachi, tuna, and Japanese scallop on wakame salad, with two choices of sauce.

Flats of greens were used as both decoration and food, with caterers serving salads with sliced green apple, sesame seeds, and citrus dressing.

The food at the event carried the raw theme, with Barone and Tong providing a sashimi station, an oyster bar, and hors d'oeuvres like organic beef tenderloin tartare and tandoori wild salmon with coriander yogurt served on platters like granite slabs and lightboxes. A long table showcased greens in their planters, which catering staff turned into salads. Guests received raw maple on a stick as they exited the party.

Graham said she sought out culturally savvy companies to partner with Raw Design—whose projects include the new downtown Mini dealership and the Cube condos on College Street—for the launch. Glenfiddich set up a scotch tasting bar, and Rich Prosecco and Steam Whistle also provided beverages; the furniture company Dietiker Switzerland created a red lounge area for extra seating. Window decals, lights from Artemide, and a few floral arrangements by Marlene Shiff of the clothing store Boutique Le Trou rounded out the simple decor.   —Erin Letson
