The 13th annual Niagara Icewine Festival kicked off Friday with a dinner featuring more than 100 local wines and 12 food stations created by the local chefs.
Ontario icewines were front and centre on Friday, when the Fallsview Casino Resort kicked off the 13th annual Niagara Icewine Festival. The Fire and Ice gala—sponsored by Xerox and organized by Kim Reep, event manager for the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival—was all about the food and drink.

The gala attracted 700 guests and featured more than 100 icewines from 30 of Niagara’s award-winning wineries, including Creekside Estate Winery, Jackson-Triggs Vintners, and Magnotta Winery. Twelve food stations were positioned throughout the event space, offering an array of hearty foods and delicate desserts.

Hors d’oeuvres from 17 Noir and Lucky’s Steakhouse (located in Casino Niagara) included icewine-poached figs with goat cheese and Dungeness crab cakes. The Golden Lotus sushi bar offered Peking duck and roasted whole suckling pig. Two dessert stations featured wine-themed treats and sweets—presented in champagne flutes and martini glasses—including icewine berry cake, fresh strawberries in icewine, and rustic pear tarts with late-harvest riesling.

Zero Gravity Circus provided entertainment, including a fire eater, a performer dressed as an ice sorceress statue, and two contortionists, who performed while wearing lit candelabras on their heads.   —Kimberly Spice
