Restaurants and hotels across the city are welcoming the summer season by unveiling new and renovated patios. Here's a look at five venues with outdoor space for dining and events.

1. The Burroughes Building, located at Queen and Bathurst, is an independent loft-style space with hardwood floors and exposed brick walls. The 6,000-square-foot venue, which opened about a year ago, debuted a rooftop patio on May 31. The outdoor space, referred to as the Top of the Burroughes, offers views of the city and can accommodate up to 125 people. The space is equipped with its own bar and lounge furniture. The patio can be booked for private events in conjunction with the sixth floor loft area, which holds up to 500 people. MORE >>

Watermark Irish Pub and Restaurant, which opened at Harbourfront Centre last week, is among a host of high-end pubs popping up around town. Here's a look at the venue, along with two other new spots and a traditional Irish pub that's set to open on Queen Street East later this month.

1. Watermark—the latest pub from Fab Concepts Inc., which also operates Brazen Head, Foggy Dew, and Pogue Mahone—is a lakeside restaurant in the Queens Quay Terminal that's filled with dark wood tables with hardwood floors. The pub has seating for 240 inside and a semiprivate room with a fireplace that holds groups of up to 150 for cocktail receptions and 100 for dinner. The space has garage doors that open onto a lakeside patio that holds up to 220. The menu, created by executive chef Ken Skidmore, features traditional pub food like Irish stew and Stilton and onion beef pasties, with a focus on seafood. MORE >>

Looking for a meal made with farm fresh ingredients? These four spots offer menus with locally sourced food.

1. With a chalkboard menu that changes daily, Cowbell Restaurant owners Mark Cutrara (the executive chef) and Karin Culliton are dedicated to serving fresh fare. Cutrara and his kitchen staff use naturally raised organic meat and produce sourced from local farmers, many of which participate in the restaurant's Farmers Nights. Trillium Spring trout served with beef hash and mushrooms, and Muscovy duck served with carrots, mushrooms, and cherries are a sampling of the dishes offered. Cowbell, which resembles a French bistro, seats 44. MORE >>

Looking for a stylish lounge for a group outing? These two restaurants offer intimate spots for cocktails and corporate events.

1. Located on Danforth Avenue, the Local Company is a 3,100-square-foot loft-style space with high ceilings and exposed brick walls. The restaurant, open since late November, is separated into a dining room, lounge, and loft. The venue can be booked in its entirety or separately. All of the furniture is modular and can be arranged or removed as required. The dining room holds 80 for dinner and 125 for cocktails. The lounge can accommodate 50 for a meal or 75 for a reception, and the loft holds 30 for cocktails. The menu, created by chef Steve Wilson, includes a selection of Mediterranean sharing plates with dishes such as spicy Italian sausage sliders with roasted peppers, onions, and provolone and crispy filo rolls with goat cheese, spinach, and sun-dried tomatoes. Representatives from the international fashion media, buyers, and sponsors will be flocking to the tents in Nathan Phillips Square to see the latest designs from labels like Pink Tartan and Bustle this week as LG Fashion Week gets under way. With limited options for dining inside the tents—hors d'oeuvres are passed in the sponsor lounge and meals are catered for the media—we've staked out a few nearby spots for lunch, dinner, or cocktails and dessert after the shows.

1. Set in the recently renovated Toronto Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre, Trios Bistro offers a lunch menu of contemporary dishes created by executive chef Morgan Wilson, including peaches and cream corn soup, yellow fin tuna, and cocktails made with fresh juices. The 130-seat space, decorated in earth tones, features a wall of windows looking out onto Trinity Square, across the street from the tents. A semiprivate area can hold up to 20 people. MORE >>

With the Toronto International Film Festival less than a month away, restaurants and bars around the city are expected to be preparing for the celebrity storm. Here are two spots getting preliminary buzz:

A loft-style private dining room is set to open at the popular new restaurant Grace by the first week of September. Continuing the modern yet traditional decor found in the main dining room, designer Patti Cuccia used a grey palette, Mennonite wood barn beams, and simple plywood farmer's tables to furnish the 30-seat upstairs space, which holds 50 for receptions. Following Gibson's success at her former Los Angeles restaurants Bella and Parc, the private room is predicted to be a celebrity destination.
