| D.C. Fashion Week Attracts International Designers |
|
D.C. Fashion Week, a partnership of independent fashion designers, producers, and models that launched in 2001, opened yesterday and will continue through Sunday. Fashion shows, industry networking parties, an educational seminar for high school students interested in fashion careers, and an outdoor festival showcasing the work of local designers are taking place at venues across the area.
Directed by Ean Williams, a designer who also helms clothing company Corjor International, D.C. Fashion Week is held every February and September. Williams puts an emphasis on diversity; this season's lineup includes designers hailing from Cote d'Ivoire, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Hungary, and more. Women's and men's collections for spring/summer 2009 will be showcased.
Events include a Corjor International fashion show tonight at the National 4-H Conference Center; a free fashion industry networking party Thursday at the penthouse pool of Senate Square Condos; an international fashion show at the National Press Club on Friday; the free H Street Festival Fashion Show on Saturday; and the international couture collections fashion show at the Embassy of France Sunday evening to close out the week.
