K Street Gets Sleek Asian Lounge
The latest creation from Washington nightlife guru Michael Romeo is Lotus, an upscale, Asian-inspired supper club that opened May 10. A departure from Romeo’s supersize Fur Nightclub in Northeast D.C., the 5,600-square-foot Lotus has curving walls that divide the space into three semiprivate areas and holds as many as 370 guests. In addition to a 90-seat front-room lounge, Lotus offers a main bar, a sushi bar, and a private room for 100 (which can be accessed through a private elevator).

Design features include a 16-foot-tall river rock waterfall, a 10-foot-tall female Buddha sculpture, and a $1.2 million fiber-optic light system that sends out pulsating images set to the sound system. Described by Romeo as “Alice in Wonderland meets the Dalai Lama,” Lotus will serve an all-day menu of sushi and sashimi as well as artisan sakes and specialty cocktails and is equipped with Wi-Fi.   —Sean Neary
