Northern Virginia has a fast-growing restaurant scene. Here's a look at three of NoVa's newest eateries.

1. Twenty-five miles from Washington in the historic town of Clifton, the trilevel Trummer’s on Main opened in July, offering a menu of creative American cuisine served in four distinct areas. On the ground floor, the 16-seat wine tasting room offers a view of an 8,000-bottle wine cellar. One level up, the 50-seat main dining room has two fireplaces, and the glass-enclosed 90-seat Winter Garden room has a flagstone waterfall. On the third floor, the 50-seat Gallery Room, often used for private dining, is decorated with local artwork. For guests on any level, co-owner and well-known mixologist Stefan Trummer creates seasonal cocktails. The venue is available for full buyout. MORE >>

3 Restaurants With Patios

Washington weather is unpredictable, at best. But spring offers the perfect time for outdoor dining, before the summer heats up. Here are three restaurants with pleasant patios, each with a different urban view.

1. Opened in July 2008, Redwood restaurant recently started service on one of the area’s largest patios for alfresco dining, with seating for 100 on a pedestrian-only cobblestone street in the Bethesda Row shopping complex in downtown Bethesda. The spacious main dining room has natural decor elements of stone, dark wood, and cork, and has seating for 300. The menu reflects the chef’s preference for organic vegetables, naturally raised meats, and wild and sustainable seafood.

These new spots are ripe for entertaining the boss—or anyone else impressed by A-list eats.

Art and Soul
In September, the Liaison Capitol Hill, an Affi nia hotel debuted this 221-seat restaurant helmed by Chicago chef Art Smith. The dining area looks out onto the 76-seat patio through 16-foot glass walls and is separated from the lounge by chain curtains. The restaurant
includes a private room for 50.

Jackson 20
This 120-seat modern colonial tavern opened in Alexandria’s new Hotel Monaco in January 2008. Buyouts are available, and the chef’s table offers private dining for 12.

Here's a look at three conference centers that recently opened in the area.

1. With 16,550 square feet and room for as many as 1,800 guests, the National Conference Center’s new ballroom opened in Lansdowne, Virginia, (12 miles from Dulles Airport and a 45-minute drive from Washington) in January 2008. One facet of the center’s $12 million expansion, the ballroom includes an adjacent atrium that holds 950. The center also includes 250,000 square feet of meeting space, 250 meeting rooms, and 917 guest rooms. MORE >>

You can add a dose of education to an event at these new (and newly improved) museums.

1. After a two-year, $85 million renovation, the National Museum of American History reopened in November. The museum’s look, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill of New York, includes a fi ve-story atrium with a skylight and a new climate-controlled Star-Spangled Banner gallery. The Flag Hall, which includes a new third-story balcony, seats 350.

Three New Patios for Summer Gatherings

Warm weather is finally here, and with it come some new options for alfresco dining.

Assaggi, a new restaurant in Bethesda that opened in May, has one edge on other Washington Italian restaurants: The spot, whose name translates from the Italian as "tastings," boasts the only mozzarella bar in the U.S. The chilled, glass-enclosed marble counter displays cheeses from Italy, California, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Guests can taste their mozzarella inside, where they'll find seating for 100 (including a chef’s table) or opt for the 30-seat sidewalk patio complete with roomy bamboo armchairs. MORE >>

New Wine Bars Invade Washington (and Beyond)

Veritas Wine Bar

Wine bars are the latest trend to take over the Washington area. Here are a few spots to have on your business-entertaining radar.

Veritas Wine Bar
A few blocks north of Dupont Circle, nestled at the corner of Connecticut and Florida avenues, sits Veritas, a snug den of a wine bar owned by Adam Manson, former manager of Capitol Hill's Sonoma Restaurant and Wine Bar. Beveridge Seay designed the warm, cellar-like interior, with walls of exposed brick and rich crimson, black stained hardwood floors, and a handsome antique-style mantle. Eight small tables and a 10-seat bar fill the 700-square-foot space, open since September, and cutely named wine flights ("Backpacking in Italy" and "Three Deadly Zins" among them) highlight a menu that also includes cured meats and cheeses, such as a Wisconsin cocoa cardona and a French fourme d'ambert.
