At a time when dot-coms are going up in flames all the time, KPE had reason to celebrate. The Web services and media venture capital firm celebrated its fifth anniversary in Silicon Alley with a party in its headquarters above Union Square, in the building that formerly housed Andy Warhol's Factory.

Guests were greeted at the door by a bald security guard wearing blue face paint to resemble KPE's blue-head logo. The interior of the office--which boasts lots of dot-com-typical exposed piping and stainless steel--was illuminated with a thousand white votives and a few large beeswax pillar candles. Match Catering and Event Styles, the firm that planned the event, also used gobo lights at the front entrance and inside the office to light the floor with the KPE logo.

Match served up an array of foods, including individual servings of pad thai in small take-out food cartons; petit-fours with the KPE logo; and an anniversary cake with a replication of the party's invitation on top. In keeping with the blue theme of the company logo, partygoers sipped special “KPE-tinis,” which looked like servings of Windex in martini glasses.
