A Futuristic-Fab Launch Party

Models hired by Screaming Queens posed in peepholes along the long silver tunnel that led into Sama Eyewear's party at Drive In Studios.

If the future is, indeed, so bright you'll have to wear shades, the folks at Sama Eyewear seem to think they've got the sunglasses for you. The company hired Harrison & Shriftman to throw a futuristic-themed party to launch its new line of sunglasses, and guests got quite an eyeful as they entered the party at Drive In Studios.

After checking in with the list-keepers manning the door (and holding cool glow-in-the-dark clipboards), guests walked through a tunnel that was built in the sloped driveway that leads into the venue's upstairs space. Along the long silver tunnel, large peep holes revealed male and female dancers posing provocatively in Sama sunglasses, skimpy silver outfits and silver body paint.

Inside the main space, the party looked the way people thought the future would look in the 60's and 70's--think minimalist and white--which now just looks like decor from the 60's and 70's. Samantha Walker, Harrison & Shriftman's director of special events, developed the event's concept and worked with production designer Kevin Largent of Largent Studios to create the set, which featured mod white couches and clear plastic furniture rented from Art & Industrial Design Shop. Largent also built tables with plasma screens (rented from Scharff Weisberg) that showed the Sama logo during the party.

The set also included clear booths, where two dancers vamped to the music from celebrity DJ Samantha Ronson (DJ Keith Kandell also took a turn at the turntable). Alex Heimberg (aka Miss Understood) of Screaming Queens hired the dancers and designed their glittering makeup and the silver raccoon makeup worn by the caterwaiters serving food from Matthew Kenney Catering & Events.
