BMC Software, calling itself the “Quiet Giant” of the Internet world, celebrated its move from Nasdaq to the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) with a giant-sized promotional event in front of the exchange. Despite rainy, cold weather, Michael Ahern of Michael Ahern Production Services Inc. pulled off a successful early morning event that managed to generate some buzz in and around the exchange.

Stilt-walkers and jugglers from Jestmaster Productions bopped around in front of the building, attracting attention with brightly-colored costumes--markedly different from the dreary gray sky. The TomCats provided some swinging big band tunes, which were appreciated by the floor traders furiously chain-smoking in front of the exchange before trading began. And Corinne Kilkeary of Lackmann Culinary Services brought more than 3,000 bagels and made several gallons of hot coffee to give away to people passing the exchange on their way to work.

BMC and Ahern extended the “Quiet Giant” theme of the event with some interesting branding ideas. Giant footprints were placed on the pavement in front of the exchange by the bagel and coffee tent, and the company gave gigantic insulated plastic coffee mugs to the floor traders in the exchange.

Inside, BMC president and CEO Robert Beauchamp was on hand to ring the opening bell at 9:30 am.
