Patrice Broderick, the new special events director for the New York City Partnership and Chamber of Commerce, told us the theme of its gala at the Hammerstein Ballroom was a play on the nickname of its guest of honor, Beverly Sills, AKA “Bubbles.”

Designer Renny Reynolds (of Renny Designs for Entertaining) had 55 giant, six-feet-wide white balloons floating 15 to 25 feet above the tables, and anchored to centerpieces of white dendrobiums. Bob January's 23-piece orchestra provided an elegant 40's feel, and Restaurant Associates' Tim McLaughlin made a spectacular meal that included a trio of creme brulee with gold spun sugar for dessert.

Special event consulting firm Livet Riechard helped organize the event, which ended promptly at 9:45, giving guests plenty of time to catch the latest election results.
