The first presidential debate last night, held at Magness Arena on the campus of the University of Denver, was the most tweeted event in American political history, pulling in 10.3 million tweets in 90 minutes. Mashable:

Jim Lehrer, the moderator of the discussion, gained some Twitter buzz that dubbed him “Silent Jim Lehrer,” as all his focus went to keeping the candidates in the time limit. New York Magazine:

In other politically-heated Twitter news, KitchenAid responded to the Obamacare topic with a tweet that read,“Obamas gma even knew it was going 2 b bad! 'She died 3 days b4 he became president,” along with the #nbcpolitics hashtag. The tweet was immediately deleted, and senior director of marketing Cynthia Soledad later apologized by saying, “During the debate tonight, a member of our Twitter team mistakenly posted an offensive tweet from the KitchenAid handle instead of a personal handle. The tasteless joke in no way represents our values at KitchenAid, and that person won't be tweeting for us anymore … I am deeply sorry to President Obama, his family, and the Twitter community for this careless error.” AdWeek:

2. SPEAKERS & F.T.C. GUIDELINES: Blogger Jeff Hurt of Velvet Chainsaw on how the F.T.C. Social Media Endorsement Guidelines apply to conferences and speakers: “If you as a conference organizer require your speakers to promote your conference and their session in social media, and you give them some type of compensation for speaking and promotion, then the relationship must be disclosed. Even if you give them a discounted or free registration, the relationship must be disclosed.”

3. WONDER APP: Wonderbra has launched a new “Decoder” app which allows users to have x-ray vision. By pointing a smartphone at Wonderbra ads in print, outdoor, and video format you can see underneath the model's the Wonderbra undergarments she's sporting. AdWeek:

4. DIGITAL MARKETING: As Advertising Week continues through tomorrow, it's become clear just how important going digital, via mobile and social media, really is to promoting and selling a brand. The event has included more than 150 panels, presentations, and speeches focused on how companies can leverage marketing methods with Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, and Tumblr.
