Computer hardware isn't very glamorous. But Canon managed to bring some glitz to a launch party for its new line of scanners. To make the event feel a bit more like a fashion show than a sleepy technology showcase, Canon had smiling models carry the scanners up a dramatic white staircase. The designer of the scanner--clad in a black suit--followed behind them.

To create an environment worthy of a fashion show, Canon hired Designs by Douglas, a Los Angeles-based design company that has done d?cor for high-profile Hollywood parties including balls for both the Oscars and the Emmys. At Cipriani 42nd Street, designer Douglas Johnson put up walls to create a more intimate feel in the vast, majestic space, and then filled the newly created room with his unique furniture pieces, including broad, flat white couches and circular, silver cushioned benches.

Guests lounged in the cozy environment while sipping champagne and nibbling food catered by Cipriani, while DJ Andy Anderson played lounge music. Lighting designs from Frost Lighting heightened the d?cor's dramatic effect.
