Hollywood press agent Warren Cowan died of cancer on Wednesday at age 87, according to Reuters. In 1946, Cowan joined the agency that is now called Rogers & Cowan; the powerhouse handles such events as Elton John's Oscar party.
In an email tribute sent yesterday, fellow publicist Edward Lozzi said, "His track record and pioneer status in an industry with controversy will always be a beacon for those of us he leaves behind.... Any comment or smile from him was worth gold. A favor from him was truly a cause to celebrate.... For my entire 25 years career in PR, for some reason the words 'Warren Cowan' were spoken somewhere in our office, at celebrity events, at office water fountains and conference rooms all over at least once a week. He was the BAR that you tried to raise. At 87, he was still cutting-edge."
