March of Dimes director of development Karoline Hurd has been with the nonprofit organization for 11 years and plans about 11 local fund-raisers annually as well as dozens of smaller-scale events. Hurd works out of the metro D.C. chapter in Arlington, and recently planned last Friday’s Celebrando el Espiritu Latino event, which honored Hispanic community leaders.
Printing: “Best Impressions is a printing outfit in Alexandria. They have a really quick turnaround time and are very easy to work with. They respond quickly to short-notice orders. We use them for every type of print collateral possible, and they also do in-house mailing.”
Mapping: “From a logistical standpoint, for the past 10 years ADC Map has mapped out the routes [for our WalkAmerica event] and printed them as well—and they donate all of that. A representative comes out every year and sits down with the team to review the routes. They’re really great to work with.”Entertainment: “Meray Entertainment donates DJ services and sound systems for some of the walks and are always great. Also, My Gym Children’s Fitness Center brings out some equipment to entertain the kids while parents walk.”
Awards: “Dan Kain Trophies Inc. is a trophy and awards shop in Arlington, and we use him for all of our events—many times on an extremely last-minute basis. He always pulls through.”
Venue: “The [Celebrando el Espiritu Latino] event was held at the Hilton Washington Embassy Row. Ursula McNamara is the assistant director of sales there, and she’s a joy to work with. She’s not only an employee of the hotel, but also on the [March of Dimes] volunteer committee, which makes things easy.”
