Philadelphia restaurateur Stephen Starr partnered with
Iron Chef alum Masaharu Morimoto for this New York restaurant in the Chelsea Market designed by architect Tadao Ando. Down the block from Buddakan (and opposite Mario Batali's recently opened Del Posto), Starr’s contemporary Chinese eatery, Morimoto’s light-filled sleek bilevel space beneath the Highline has glass and rice paper partitions, a 24-seat sushi bar around the 1,500-square-foot kitchen, an eight-seat omakase bar (chef’s table), and a sculpture wall made with 17,000 Tynant water bottles. The 12,000-square-foot space seats 160 in the dining room, 40 in the lower level lounge and bar, and 300 for events. Morimoto opened on January 31. —Anna Sekula
