"Yeas and Nays" columnists Jeff Dufour and Patrick Gavin are reporting today that power-lunching restaurant the Palm is closing for six weeks, from August 1 to September 16, to give the venue what some might say is a much-needed face-lift and expansion. We talked to a Palm public relations rep, who confirmed that the venue is indeed adding 800 square feet to the private dining room and converting the space into a glass-enclosed veranda. Other changes include doubling the bar's size and gussying up the kitchen and bathrooms.

Politicos can breathe easy—most of the caricatures on the walls are staying put. But according to one “many-times-per-week regular” the columnists spoke with, "There is nowhere else to go.... Everyone is going to starve to death." Thirty-five-year Palm veteran and general manager Tommy Jacomo, who has been with the venue since its inception, will be taking a "well-deserved six-week vacation," according to a Palm spokesperson. This is the restaurant's most extensive (and longest) renovation to date.
