Citing Strike, Stewart Pulls Out of Paley Center Gig

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news yesterday that comedian Jon Stewart has pulled out of his hosting duties for tonight’s Paley Center for Media fund-raiser, due to the ever-lingering writers strike. Charlie Rose will be filling in.

According to the story, the Paley Center “chalked up the decision to Stewart's added workload hosting The Daily Show With Jon Stewart without his stable of writers, who remain on strike,” though sources hinted that it had more to do with rumors of Writers Guild Association members picketing the event.

Taking place at the Waldorf-Astoria starting at 6:30 p.m., the black-tie event is set to honor Viacom and CBS executive chairperson Sumner Redstone, so it made sense that Stewart would M.C., considering that Comedy Central's The Daily Show is Viacom-owned. Hollywood heavyweights such as Jeff Zucker and Robert Iger are set to attend.

All eyes are now on the Oscars, with no word as to whether the show will go on, or if Stewart will host.
