Citymeals' Roaring 20's Tasting Event

June 12, 2001, 12:00 AM EDT

The best beverage display was Bombay Sapphire's bathtub full of gin (bathtub gin was common during Prohibition, remember) on a bed of ice and decorated with strings of pearls.

For the annual gala tribute to James Beard benefiting Citymeals-on-Wheels, Toby Ellen Sarna of Toby Ellen Sarna Ltd. Special Events assisted Citymeals' special event department with managing the event. They brought in Flowers by Reuven and Matthew David Events to coordinate the Roaring 20's decor, which included everything from feathery chandeliers on the banisters to hats for men and feathered headbands for women.

The Roaring 20's theme--to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Citymeals and that the charity has delivered 20 million meals--called for “Black Tie and Flapper Finery” dress, so long strings of pearls, feathers and sequin headbands were de rigueur among female guests. Thirty-five of the nation's top chefs and some of New York's most fanatical gourmands assembled in Rockefeller Center to raise $1 million for the organization and graze on some of the best food in the country.
