Here's more proof that Columbus Circle is about to become a culinary hotspot: When the new Columbus Center opens in late 2003, the building will include four big-time restaurants, in addition to the AOL Time Warner headquarters and a new facility for Jazz at Lincoln Center. The New York Times' Florence Fabricant reported recently that the 80-story twin-towered building will hold a New York outpost of chef Thomas Keller's famous French Laundry in Napa Valley, and Jean-Georges Vongerichten will open a steakhouse, just across the street from his flagship Jean-Georges. Developers are still looking for chefs to fill the other two slots. The news comes after reports from The New York Observer that Ian Schrager--the impresario behind the Hudson, Paramount and Royalton hotels--is eyeing the land under the building at 2 Columbus Circle for his next high-gloss hotel.
