“How could I have imagined that someone would be able to walk on me on Seventh Avenue?” designer Pauline Trigere gushed at the Fashion Center Business Improvement District's (BID) Fashion Walk of Fame event. At this year's ceremony, the BID was out to repave the city with sidewalk plaques honoring influential fashion designers. About 250 fashion designers, industry players and garment district real estate owners filled the Bryant Park Hotel's new in-house restaurant Ilo, as the recognized designers' friends and family unveiled the new memorials at the early morning reception.

The induction was short and simple, with a continental breakfast catered by Ilo and a few floral arrangements by Fiori. Attention was focused on the fashion greats--eight designers, including Anne Klein, Donna Karan and Oscar de la Renta were recognized--and on the enormous cast metal plaques designed by World Studio and constructed by Urban Accessories. The program for the event was modeled after the plaques, and took the form a round foldout replica of the memorials printed by RMI.

Part of an ongoing project, the Fashion Walk of Fame is the only permanent monument to the American fashion industry and will culminate in the installation of 24 plaques in the sidewalks along the stretch of Seventh Avenue between 35th and 41st streets.
