1. ALL FIVE OSCAR-NOMINATED SONGS WILL BE PERFORMED AT CEREMONY: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that all five best original song nominees will be performed live during the telecast on February 24. Originally, the plan for the ceremony was to only have “Shallow” by Lady Gaga (from A Star Is Born) and “All the Stars” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA (from Black Panther) be performed live. The change is most likely in response to the backlash the Academy received for its initial decision. Variety: “It is not yet clear whether any of the performers associated with the nominated songs besides Hudson have accepted Academy offers to perform—among them Blunt, Lady Gaga ('Shallow'), Kendrick Lamar and SZA ('All the Stars'), and Willie Watson and Tim Blake Nelson ('When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings' from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs). Sources say that the nominees were talking among themselves last week and that some agreed that solidarity was important, and that a united front of 'perform them all' or 'perform none of them' might work as a tactic. Whether that happened is not clear. ... At one point, the possibility of having still more music on the telecast was in play: Sources tell Variety a feeler went out to the members of Queen to open the show with one of the hits revived in the Bohemian Rhapsody film, but that’s not happening." https://bit.ly/2HLnAjn
2. ATLANTA LAW ENFORCEMENT CONFIDENT IN SUPER BOWL SECURITY PLAN: Local, federal, and state law enforcement are assured the security plan for Super Bowl LIII will keep the event safe from bomb threats, other violent acts, and robberies. More than 5,000 law enforcement officials and around 180 police dogs will be posted at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium and other venues in Atlanta. ESPN: “Officials said there have been no security threats as of Wednesday. Chief Shields said 33 arrests for human trafficking related to the Super Bowl crowd have been made this week and four trafficking victims were rescued. Officers also have confiscated more than 2,000 counterfeit items related to N.F.L. team merchandise. Nick Annan, special agent in charge of homeland security investigations in Atlanta, expressed confidence in the security measures in place. … Annan said his suggestion to fans to make the environment even safer is to leave guns and knives at home, bring as little as you can, and abide by the clear-bag policy which states what you can bring into the stadium.” https://es.pn/2GjyaMb
3. IS NEW YORK FASHION WEEK: MEN'S ENDING?: 2019 could be the last year for New York Fashion Week: Men's as a separate event. The C.F.D.A. is expected to announce the unofficial end of the event as early as next week, after designers present their fall 2019 collections. The Daily Front Row: "'Men’s will move to June and run side by side with women’s resort,' said one source, who spoke with The Daily Front Row on the condition of anonymity. 'It’s not “over,” but just won’t be subsidized by the C.F.D.A. and won’t have a hub.' N.Y.F.W.: Men’s had a promising start a few years ago, but never really took off. With a roster made up almost entirely of small, independent, niche brands, N.Y.F.W.: Men’s failed to attract the attention, money, or prestige of its women’s counterpart." https://bit.ly/2S4ofAY
