NEW YORK For the Public Art Fund's gala at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers, Melissa Feldman of MF Productions put together a fabulous fete that included gourmet food, arty decor and hip cocktails for a chic, eclectic crowd of art folks. Feldman, whose expertise is event planning for the art world, has managed events for clients including the Kitchen, artist colony Yaddo and the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
For the decor, Connie Sherman of Wink Studio designed an enchanting vision that enhanced the space's lovely view of the Hudson River. For centerpieces, clear acrylic sheets were suspended from the ceiling with fishing wire, with an assortment of peonies, ranunculi, hydrangea, chrysanthemums, dianthus, poppies, lilacs and kumquats strewn on top. Underneath this display, ivory pillar candles on top of a large square mirror beautifully illuminated the flowers hanging above. And none of the hanging pieces obstructed guests' views of the gorgeous sunset, which was nicely muted with some gauzy shades that covered the huge windows.
Lighthouse caterer Abigail Kirsch brought in a colorful assortment of hors d'oeuvres that included sesame lamb wontons with a ginger coconut milk dipping sauce, seafood vichyssoise, ginger glazed duck and portobello steak fries. For dinner guests dined on citrus-roasted sea bass with coucous, and for dessert, a decadent mochaccino ice cream pyramid of cappuccino and chocolate ice cream, praline brittle and Grand Marnier orange compote.
The Public Art Fund is a nonprofit organization that collaborates with new and established artists to present works of art in public spaces. The event was attended by 260 guests, and raised $300,000 through ticket sales and the silent auction of works donated by artists such as Jeff Koons and William Wegman. After the event, guests headed to Lot 61 for an after-party.
