FOOD: Bug-licious Treats

They're high in protein, and oh-so-good for you. We're talking about bugs: Chocolate-covered crickets, freeze-dried larvae, double-dipped cockroaches and more. We first encountered insect cuisine at this summer's National Assocation of Catering Executives annual conference,
and considering the success of reality TV shows like Survivor and Fear Factor, it's bound to become a catering trend--and conversation-starter. California-based Hotlix manufactures everything from larvae-lollipops, butterfly candies (made of leaves and larvae, not actual butterflies), chocolate-covered beetles and roaches, and a variety of other bug-based confections. For a Survivor-themed corporate event, the products can be branded with company logos or slogans, and Hotlix will take custom orders with no minimum order amounts. Hotlix's on-site bug farm can also supply caterers with bugs for their own dishes. --Suzanne Ito
