Call it an easy transition to city life after Angelenos' Independence Day weekend getaways. On Wednesday evening, Havaianas had a party at Space 15 Twenty at 1520 North Cahuenga Boulevard (inside the Urban Outfitters rotating designer concept boutique), to launch its Hollywood pop-up shop, a 1,000-square-foot space with a distinctly tropical vibe. The pop-up, known as “Havaianas Mercado,” is the first for the brand locally—following the success of the first U.S. Havaianas boutique in Huntington Beach—and is meant to evoke a Brazilian market, with colorful details including painted wooden plank walls. A make-your-own flip-flops station resembled a fruit stand, complete with baskets and colorful touches, and allowed guests to customize a pair using their choices of shoe base, straps, and studs. Lacy Maxwell handled the production and design of the space, and designer Steven Gerstein spearheaded the project.
