How Bonnaroo Engaged 80,000 Attendees at This Year's Festival

While music is the main attraction, festival organizers—as well as brands like Mattel and Ford—added activities and guest perks to the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.

More than 80,000 music-lovers gathered at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, from June 13 to 17. Produced by Superfly Presents, the event included concerts by Paul McCartney, Björk, Kendrick Lamar, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, as well as comedy performances and cinema screenings. A multitude of vendors, artisans, and brands also competed to catch guests' attention—here's a look at how some of those brands stood out, plus how organizers expanded their on-site activities and amenities, as well as their social engagement strategies for this year's festival.

As the 80,000 attendees at this year’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival celebrated on a Tennessee farm June 7-10, news of their daily activities was posting to Facebook, creating nearly 1.5 million social impressions. But the attendees weren’t pulling out their smartphones to connect to Facebook; instead they were swiping wristbands with radio frequency identification (R.F.I.D.) technology at one of 20 check-in portals around the 700-acre venue.
