Event planners got some good ideas and plenty of vodka at the November meeting of the International Special Event Society's New York metropolitan chapter. Held in the Props for Today warehouse, the meeting included a presentation on “luxury entertaining” from event designer-turned-entertaining guru David Tutera, who also led a blind tasting of six different vodka brands. (Tutera is also a spokesperson for Millennium Import Company, which reps Belvedere and Chopin vodkas.)

In his speech, Tutera gave some fairly common tips (“Create an experience,” and “Take specialty drinks and create them to match your party") but illustrated them with some beautiful slides of his work. And ISES members could experience a little of Tutera's decor touches in person while sitting at tables decorated with silver tablecloths and candelabras that looked like white branches.

Before the presentation, everyone got to tour the various floors of the Props for Today warehouse, and nibble hors d'oeuvres from Sonnier & Castle in a lounge area decorated with a white, modern look by Spaeth Design.

The event was part of a movement toward upgrading the quality of the ISES chapter's regular gatherings. “We're event professionals,” Jennifer Claire Scott, the group's vice president of programs, told us. “We shouldn't be planning monthly meetings. We should be planning monthly events.”
