Boston's hotel scene has added several notable properties in the past few years—including the Liberty Hotel and the Fairmont Battery Wharf—but none have stirred up quite as much excitement as two new projects set to open within weeks of each other this fall.
The first is the long-awaited W Boston, the Starwood chain's first foray into the city, slated to open October 22. Situated at the corner of Stuart and Tremont Streets in the Theatre District, the glass-facade W features 234 rooms, including 24 suites. The hotel includes the W's standard on-site amenities, such as a a Bliss spa and Sweat fitness center, as well as a restaurant from three-Michelin-starred chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Nine meeting rooms offer 5,000 square feet of event space, including the Great Room, which seats 150 for banquets.
The second highly anticipated property coming this fall is the Ames Hotel. Its 113 rooms are inside Boston's first skyscraper, the 1889 Ames Building, just around the corner from City Hall and Faneuil Hall. Developed by Morgans Hotel Group, owners of the Hudson Hotel in New York and the Delano in South Beach, the hotel will open in November and retains some of the building's original design elements, including the , barrel-vaulted mosaic ceiling in the lobby. Accommodation options include spacious lofts, suites, and one-bedroom apartments. There will also be a 50-seat boardroom and a modern tavern, the Woodward, from chef Mark Goldberg of Minstral.
Both the Ames and the W are now taking meeting and conference reservations.
Correction: This story has been changed to reflect that Mark Goldberg is the chef of the Woodward. Seth Greenberg is the owner.
