Inspired by Ken Burns’s documentary Prohibition, Saloon opened in Somerville’s Davis Square in December. At the bottom of a narrow stairwell, the subterranean cocktail bar and restaurant is adjacent to popular bistro Foundry on Elm. The wood-paneled room has leather banquettes and turn-of-the-century-style chandeliers. A horseshoe-shaped bar, attended by mustachioed bartenders in suspenders and waitresses in burlesque outfits, anchors the venue.
The space is available for buyout. The venue holds 125 guests for a seated reception or 155 for a cocktail reception. Additionally, a semi-private mirrored dining room next to the bar holds 35 guests for a seated reception or 50 for cocktails.
The venue specializes in brown liquors such as whiskey and serves turn-of-the-century fare. Signature entrees include steak-and-kidney pie and maple-braised pork belly.
Hookups for iPods are available. Additionally, the venue allows for DJs, small live bands, and flowers. Thematic cocktails are available by request.
