Chad Kaydo, editor in chief of BizBash, and Howard Givner, executive director of the Event Leadership Institute, announced that Capricia Penavic Marshall, the chief of protocol of the United States, will speak at the Event Innovation Forum, a new conference at the BizBash IdeaFest at the Javits Center October 24.

Marshall leads the Office of Protocol in its mission to advance the foreign policy of the Obama Administration by creating and fostering an environment for successful diplomacy, and acts as the first hand that welcomes kings, queens, presidents, and prime ministers to the U.S. Marshall also worked in the White House during the Clinton administration, as a special assistant to the first lady, and later a deputy assistant to the president and White House social secretary.

At the Event Innovation Forum, Marshall will discuss how the State Department uses what Secretary of State Hillary Clinton—a strong advocate for the power of events—calls “smart power” to enhance diplomatic efforts.

The Event Innovation Forum will include three 90-minute sessions packed with a mix of presenters and presentation types, including success stories from cutting-edge marketers as well as insights from influential people in other fields. Registration includes access to the Event Innovation Forum, a seated luncheon and other opportunities to speak one-on-one with presenters and attendees, and a trade show floor pass.

Previously announced presenters include event designer and producer David Stark, Scott Schenker of SAP, Noelle Provencial of Groupon, Karl Vontz of the Clios, Robin Adelson of the Children's Book Council, Howard Singer of Highline Capital, and John Schwartz of EventQuest. More participants will be announced in the coming weeks.

Attendees can register for the BizBash IdeaFest and the Event Innovation Forum now at bizbash.com/ideafestny.

Events as “Smart Power”: How the State Department Uses Hospitality to Set the Table for Diplomacy

Presented by Capricia Penavic Marshall,
Chief of Protocol of the United States

Ambassador Marshall will discuss how the State Department uses what Secretary of State Hillary Clinton calls “smart power” to enhance diplomatic efforts. Working with a Secretary of State who believes in the power of events on a global stage, Marshall has used them as a key tool in creating connections and building bonds between people and cultures. She has also introduced innovative new programs, including the first international conference for global chiefs of protocol, and the lessons from her work at the White House and the State Department can translate to boardrooms and marketing plans.
