More than 500 people came out to support Share Our Strength's 24th annual Taste of the Nation Miami on Thursday, held at the Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club in Aventura.

One of the evening's highlights was the Creekstone Farms-presented cook-off. Chef Philip Brock of the Cascata Grille & Bar at the Fairmont Turnberry Isle defeated chef Paula DaSilva of the Eden Roc Renaissance Miami Beach's 1500° restaurant, with his rolled herbed and soy flank steak served over tomato and roasted corn.

Guests sampled food from 40 restaurants, including a pork belly topped with chicharron from Bourbon Steak, a shrimp cake from Trio on the Bay, shrimp and grits from the Forge, and spicy tuna sushi from the newly opened Makoto

The night's M.C.s were chef Ralph Pagano and TV anchors Laurie Jennings and Calvin Hughes of WPLG Miami. Entertainment came in the form of rock band Smiling Gums and a DJ, provided by sister companies Mike Sipe Entertainment, Events & Productions and Pure Energy Entertainment Inc. The Fairmont Turnberry Isle led event management and PR efforts, along with Brustman Carrino. Event sponsor Whole Foods passed out gift bags during the evening.

The event raised $80,000 to fight childhood hunger.
